About us

The Studio was launched with the vision of offering functional pottery that could withstand the uses and abuses of Canadians’ daily life. This includes how we use, manipulate and clean dishes.

It was and remains important that our wares not be affected by the dishwasher’ hot water and alkaline soap. To meet this level of we only use clays with the lowest levels of porosity once fully fired. We also make sure that our glazes are fully melted and have the right chemical balance for durability.

In the Summer of 2024, we started using new production methods to work on form consistency. Up to this point, all our pots were made free hand on the pottery wheel.

Despite using the traditional tricks of the trade to increase consistency, we must admit there was more variance in shape than we liked, so we started use jiggering methods for the production of our pots.

Jiggering consists of pressing slabs of clay against a plaster mould. The mould is secured to the pottery wheel, and while turning, a profiling tool is lowered to help finish the forming of the pot. The mould shapes the outside form while the profiling tool forms the inside of the pot.

Two main objectives are achieved through jiggering. The first objective is absolute consistency in form and dimensions. Each pot is an exact replica of the other pots made. We can design pots that will stack well without awkward pressure points – therefore reducing the risks of chipping the pots.

The second objective is that this method of production facilitates expansion of the production team. Scaling the production levels without compromising on form consistency is key to the growth of the studio and our commitment to customers for high quality products.
